The city is known for some violent flare ups, though as a tourist you are never the target. In fact tourism is so rare here that the hospitality of the locals was completely overwhelming. They never allowed me to pay for a meal or a drink the entire time I was there. I was invited to countless homes of people excited to show a foreigner their beautiful way of life. So don’t let the news scare you away, but do be aware of the regions history and understand why there may seem to be over the top security.

It was honestly much less impressive than I pictured standing only about 30 feet tall and in an unassuming neighborhood, but worth seeing.
